These suggestions came from leaders who attended the AAUW Arizona Spring Conference 2016\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n

Presidents<\/h2>\n
    \n
  1. Have a mission based plan, publish and delegate<\/li>\n
  2. Plan retreat for board members<\/li>\n
  3. Plan neighborhood meetings \u2013 perhaps by zip code<\/li>\n
  4. Include plans for recognition, rewards and awards with creative ideas to say thank you<\/li>\n

    Programs<\/h2>\n
      \n
    1. Handout\/publish the program calendar for the year<\/li>\n
    2. Network\/cross fertilize with other branches, across regions<\/li>\n
    3. Encourage diversity via new cultural experience\/events, i.e. dances from different groups; \u00a0Ethnic and regional foods, Literature<\/li>\n
    4. Share programs and contacts \u2013 though Google.doc \u2013 Program \u201cbank\u201d<\/li>\n
    5. More action \u2013 such a one branch actually set up a STEM science fair in which members progressed from table to table doing the science<\/li>\n
    6. Tech Trek and Tech Savvy<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

      Treasurers<\/h2>\n
        \n
      1. State provide quicken template to assist non-accounting treasurer<\/li>\n
      2. State provide good mentoring<\/li>\n
      3. Match presidents\u2019 timeline of duties to treasurers\u2019 duties at both the branch and state levels.<\/li>\n
      4. LUNAFEST for fund raising and to lift the AAUW profile.
        \n (LUNAFEST<\/a>\u00a0 \u00a0www.<\/em><\/a>lunafest<\/em><\/strong><\/a>.org\/<\/em><\/a> LUNAFEST<\/em> is a national traveling festival of short films by, for, and about women. LUNAFEST<\/em> runs from October to March in 100 + venues nationwide)<\/li>\n
      5. Create a member only section on state website to post state financial reports (decreases copying costs) and make report accessible to the entire membership in the interest of \u00a0transparency<\/li>\n
      6. Video or teleconference for Treasurers (SKYPE) during the year<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

        Public Policy<\/h2>\n
          \n
        1. Encourage\/campaign members to join National\u2019s Washington Legislative Update and to use the tool to make your voice heard<\/li>\n
        2. Offer free workshops, i.e. \u201cHow to Plan a Public Forum\u201d; how to access and to use the information available on National\u2019s website and how to develop and use the coalition \u00a0 process with groups such as the League of Women Voters and the National Organization for Women<\/li>\n
        3. Offer to do voter registration on campus<\/li>\n
        4. Lead a tabling event to disseminate AAUW information<\/li>\n
        5. Push for members to share the \u201c2015-2017 Public Policy Program\u201d<\/li>\n
        6. Pull out public policy \u201cnuggets\u201d and include in your public policy column of branch newsletter \u2013 focus on advocacy and controversy, and education minus the adversarial<\/li>\n
        7. Have a public policy interest group that meets monthly \u2013 may combine with community action group<\/li>\n
        8. Focus on civil discourse.<\/li>\n
        9. \u00a0Letter writing campaigns (Lisa Maatz calls these the letter whores.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

          Grants and Special Projects<\/h2>\n
            \n
          1. Group now understand the difference<\/u> between grants and special projects<\/li>\n
          2. Use the state monies that are available for projects.
            \n             (Forms to apply for these funds are on the AAUW of Arizona website)<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

            Membership<\/h2>\n
              \n
            1. Put membership #s on Branch website in the member only section, on the roster or directory.<\/li>\n
            2. Reward members who recruit.<\/li>\n
            3. Try new things and ways of doing things!!<\/li>\n
            4. What is your elevator speech about what is AAUW.<\/li>\n
            5. Greeters for guests especially to welcome and introduce newbie to others.<\/li>\n
            6. \u201cInteresting\u201d Interest Groups \u2013 these draw members; \u00a0pen House with Interest groups, chairs and mission \u2013 open to the public.<\/li>\n
            7. Survey members to find out what they like and who has special interests\/talents.<\/li>\n
            8. Contact\/invite other groups from the Chamber of Commerce, Rotary, for example \u2013 asking if you can speak briefly.<\/li>\n
            9. Give a Grad a Gift memberships. \u00a0<\/li>\n
            10. On member only part of website, post board minutes, annual reports, financial statement and branch budge for the year.<\/li>\n
            11. Meeting for interested members during the summer to develop programs and activities.<\/li>\n
            12. Have each member invite a guest who may become a members and offer reduced member rate if the guest joins at a general meeting.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

              STEM<\/h2>\n
                \n
              1. Fun, Run = young, new, interested members<\/li>\n
              2. Give a Grad a Gift memberships to STEM graduated<\/li>\n
              3. STEM Initiative Needs on Website \u00a0<\/li>\n
              4. STEM Resources on Website<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

                Publicity\/Public Relations\/Marketing<\/h2>\n
                  \n
                1. Advertising in Media, Face Book, Newspapers, Area Agency on Aging<\/li>\n
                2. Think Marketing \u2013 not just public relations<\/li>\n
                3. Use social media for fundraisers and program
                  \n One Branch uses 5 different social media sites)<\/li>\n
                4. Refrigerator magnets with programs listed<\/li>\n
                5. Printed programs<\/li>\n
                6. College and University publications<\/li>\n
                7. Plan, strategize publicity for fund raisers such as Lunafest.<\/li>\n
                8. Partner with another local non-profit to share publicity<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n
